Those who have watched Avatar: The Last Airbender will likely agree with me that it’s the better Avatar franchise than the movie series from James Cameron. This is especially true since Avatar: The Last Airbender never got a movie adaptation for the big screen (right?). At New York Comic Con 2025, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game was unveiled as a fast-paced 1v1 fighter starring characters from the Avatar franchise. The game comes from Gameplay Group International, which publishes Them’s Fightin’ Herds and Diesel Legacy: The Brazen Age. It’ll feature proprietary rollback netcode and full cross-play, along with a fitting hand-drawn 2D art style that was created to preserve the animation of the original series.
Set to launch in summer 2026 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC via Steam, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game features 12 characters at launch, with more to come through a Season Mode. Along with online PvP, the game will have a single-player campaign with an original narrative. It’s worth noting that Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a working title, and the official title will be determined at a later date.
On the game’s official Steam page, there are some screenshots showing off Aang, Korra, and Zuko as playable characters, though the trailer confirms other familiar faces, including Toph, Sokka, Azula, and Katara. Unfortunately, it looks like Appa and Naga will be serving as decoration in the background.
