When Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game was first announced back in October, I was genuinely excited because the Avatar franchise has been long overdue for a proper fighting game. During the Evo Awards 2026, Gameplay Group International confirmed that the game launches on July 2, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam. It’s worth noting that the previously announced PlayStation 4 version appears to no longer be in the plans.
The new trailer also revealed three more characters for the roster: Zaheer, Fire Lord Ozai, and Avatar Kyoshi. They join the previously confirmed Aang, Korra, Zuko, Katara, Toph, Sokka, and Azula, bringing the known roster to 10 out of 12 launch characters. We got our first look at gameplay for Azula and Sokka, though Zaheer, Ozai, and Kyoshi only appeared in a splash screen. That still leaves two fighters unannounced, so there’s room for a couple more surprises before launch.
In terms of pricing, the Standard Edition comes in at $29.99 and includes all 12 launch characters, a story mode, arcade mode, training mode, combo trials, character lessons, gallery mode, and online play with ranked, casual, and lobby support. The Deluxe Edition is $49.99 and adds the soundtrack, a digital art book, unique HUDs, and a Year 1 Pass with five additional characters and extra character colors. Preorders are live on Steam, with PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store wishlisting also available. Those who preorder will get a Samurai Appa support character skin and exclusive character colors.
The game features hand-drawn 2D animation with over 900 frames per fighter, proprietary rollback netcode, and full cross-play. Each character can select one of three support characters to influence their fighting style and grant special moves, which should add some nice depth to how each fighter plays.
