Bandai Namco Entertainment and FromSoftware have announced that Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, the Switch 2 version of Elden Ring, has been delayed to 2026. The delay doesn’t come as a surprise, based on reports from those who have seen the game in action. Many have said the game’s performance is very poor to the point that some recommend not buying it on the Switch 2. Clearly, FromSoftware has heard that feedback and has decided to spend more time on the game.

The press release is a short one, just confirming that development is progressing toward release and that more time is required for game performance adjustments. As a result, the decision to change the release date was made, and we’ll have to wait for an announcement of a new one.

Named Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2022, Elden Ring is easily FromSoftware’s most successful title. Last year, the game got a sizable expansion called Shadow of the Erdtree, which controversially received a nomination for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024. It didn’t win, though, as those honors went to Astro Bot, which I really enjoyed.

While I’m generally not a fan of soulslikes, I can appreciate what Elden Ring accomplishes even if I have never managed to finish the game. What I did love, however, was Elden Ring Nightreign earlier this year. The faster-paced combat and multiplayer concept had me spending a surprising amount of time with the game. In my review, I said it was by far one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had, but it can be equally frustrating depending on your squad.
