Supergiant Games has released the second post-launch patch for Hades II, and it’s the kind of update that makes me want to jump back in. In my review, I noted that my biggest issue with the game was how unsatisfying player progression felt at times, particularly when it came to character relationships not advancing at a pace that matched my interest in them. This patch seems to directly address some of that.
Without getting into specifics that would spoil the experience, several character-related Prophecies now have narrated conclusion scenes that can be rewatched once fulfilled. Supergiant also increased the priority of key events for multiple character storylines, meaning you should encounter important moments sooner rather than getting stuck waiting for them to trigger. On top of that, requirements for some Prophecies have been reduced, which should help players who felt like certain goals were taking too long to complete.
The update also adds a “Forever Gifting” system, letting you continue gifting certain items to most Crossroads characters indefinitely after forging a bond with them. Each gift triggers a brief new scene, giving you another reason to keep interacting with the cast long after you’ve exhausted the main storyline. Characters that Melinoë can have deeper relationships with will also occasionally express interest in continuing those interactions, which is a nice touch.
On the gameplay side, there are balance adjustments to several Aspects, Boons, and Hexes. Ares received the most attention, with reworks to Profuse Bleeding and Sanguinary Savor, alongside buffs to Sword Ring, Grievous Blow, and Grisly Gain. Winner’s Circle from Hermes now works more consistently with all Cast effects. There are also new decorative items, a new alternate form for each Animal Familiar, and a new zoom option in the Accessibility menu for those playing on smaller screens.
When the game first entered Early Access in May 2024, it was already clear Supergiant had something special. Since its full 1.0 launch last September, the studio has continued to polish and expand the experience in meaningful ways. This patch is another reminder of why Supergiant has the reputation it does.
