Nintendo has officially announced that a GameCube controller adapter is on its way for the Wii U, allowing Super Smash Bros. Wii U brawlers to dust off their old controllers. The officially licensed GameCube controller adapter will allow players to connect up to four GameCube controllers to the Wii U through a USB dongle. The company has not yet announced if WaveBird wireless controllers will be supported or if other future Wii U games will be playable with the adapter.

When Super Smash Bros. Wii U is finally released, players will be able to choose from a plethora of controller options including the Wii U Pro controller and Wii Classic controllers. Though no definitive release date has been announced, Super Smash Bros. Wii U will be released this winter.
