Of everything shown during the June 2 State of Play, Stuntman: Hollywood was probably the most surprising debut, and possibly the most interesting. Saber Interactive revealed the single-player action-racing game, the first new Stuntman entry in nearly two decades, with versions coming to PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC. No release date was announced, and it is available to wishlist now.
Stuntman: Hollywood is a game about filmmaking. It is built on the speed and control of an arcade racer, the chaos of crashes and destruction, and the precision a difficult stunt demands, all organized around movie shoots and the director’s call of “Cut.” Saber points to the original Stuntman games as its main inspiration, with Burnout and Split/Second as additional touchstones.
The stunts are inspired by Universal Pictures films and NBCUniversal TV shows, including Fast & Furious, Back to the Future, Knight Rider, Miami Vice, and Death Race. Players perform them across a range of vehicles, including the Time Machine and KITT, along with cars, SUVs, motorcycles, and even a school bus. Each film is split into episodes, and each episode is its own level with a unique vehicle and gameplay twists, so the environment, pace, and objectives shift from one to the next.
In each episode, the director hands out tasks like drifting through a section, holding a tight line, crashing through obstacles, dodging incoming fire, or riding on two wheels, all against a timer with a limited number of takes. Free stunts let players improvise for style. Performance feeds a star system across both required and free stunts, while optional challenges add tougher objectives and more stars. The more stars a film earns, the more prestigious the stunt award it can win.
Outside the episodes, the Garage displays a player’s career, filling up with items, trophies, and keepsakes as they complete films and challenges. The game also includes B-roll episodes, described as short filler films, along with stunt arenas that add more stunts and challenges. Stuntman: Hollywood is available to wishlist now and looks to be a lot of fun.
