Moss Developer Polyarc Is Shutting Down After 12 Years

Polyarc, the Seattle studio behind the Moss series, is closing after nearly 12 years, announcing today that it has wound down active development and that its work is now finished. The statement, posted to the studio’s LinkedIn page, thanks everyone who played its games and everyone who worked there, and it points anyone hiring toward a list of Polyarc developers across every discipline who are now looking for their next job.

The closure follows a round of layoffs at the end of March, when Polyarc cut roughly two-thirds of its staff after what it described as an unsuccessful team-wide effort to secure funding following the cancellation of a major project. The studio never said what that project was. The remaining team still shipped Moss: The Forgotten Relic on July 16, a reimagining that combined Moss, Moss: Book II, and the Twilight Garden DLC into a single release for PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC, marking the first time the series was playable outside of VR.

Polyarc was founded in 2015 by former Bungie developers and self-published the original Moss on PlayStation VR in 2018, a puzzle-adventure starring a mouse named Quill that went on to become one of the platform’s best-known titles. Moss: Book II followed in 2022 and won Best VR/AR Game at The Game Awards, and the studio’s last new game was Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss, a multiplayer VR battler released in 2025. Quill also made a cameo as a bot in Astro Bot.

Today’s statement doesn’t address what happens to the games themselves, though nothing in it suggests they’re being pulled from sale.
