Valve has announced Steam Broadcasting, a new feature that will allow users to invite their friends to watch their game. Using the feature is rather simple where gamers can just select “watch game” from their friends list, which will instantly open a window with their friend’s gameplay. Steam Broadcasting is currently in beta testing and in order to check it out, you and your friend will have to opt into the Steam Client Beta. Users can also visit the broadcasts tab on the community home to see who is broadcasting and check out their gameplay.
As with other sharing features, users will be able to assign who can watch their games in their privacy settings and broadcasting will start as soon as someone starts watching and once the game ends, broadcasting will automatically stop.
It’s hard to say if Steam Broadcasting will take off like Twitch has, but its ease of setup will likely win many users over.
