Version 1.2.0 of Star Fox is out now on Switch 2, and the free update gives Battle Mode three new stages, Katina, Sector X, and Venom, along with new items that show up during matches. Battle Mode, the 4-vs-4 dogfighting mode that pits Team Star Fox against Team Star Wolf, also now supports split-screen for up to four players on a single console. Each player needs their own controller, although single Joy-Con 2 or Joy-Con controllers held horizontally work too, and players sharing a screen can now join random online matches together as a team. Star Fox launched on June 25 as one of our top games to play in June 2026 and is currently nominated for Best Remake / Remaster at the Golden Joystick Awards 2026.
Online Battle lobbies also no longer disband when the host leaves, and if you’re using a camera in GameChat while playing in full screen, your camera feed now appears on the game screen at moments like shooting down an enemy aircraft. That requires a separately sold USB camera, the feed and microphone audio only go to your GameChat members, and character avatars and AR accessories still work. Nintendo says it has also addressed third-party USB cameras that work on the Switch 2 itself but weren’t working in Star Fox, though not every camera is guaranteed to work.
On the campaign side, a confirmation dialog now appears if you select ABANDON CAMPAIGN after a game over, and some bosses show more clearly when they’re taking damage. The Sector X challenge to find the hidden power-up in the secret corridor can also be completed now even if you grab the wing-repair item. Several crashes and freezes are fixed too, including ones tied to repeatedly restarting Corneria and to the Bacoon and Gorgon boss fights in Aquas and Area 6. Nintendo also fixed a Battle Mode scoring bug where roughly 1,000 points went uncounted once a player passed about 1,200, and the full list of changes is in its patch notes.
