The official Sony PlayStation app is now available for download on both iOS and Android devices. The PlayStation app will give users access to the PlayStation Network from a mobile device such as a tablet or smartphone, allowing them to chat with friends, receive game alerts and purchase games from the PlayStation Store. Games purchased from the PlayStation Store for the PlayStation 4 can automatically be downloaded and installed to the console even while you’re away.

Game alerts from the PlayStation app include notifications of your friends’ game ratings, trophies and avatar changes, in addition to a notification when they’re streaming online. The app also allows your device to be a keyboard during PlayStation 4 gaming sessions, allowing text chat possible without having to shell out for another peripheral.

Most importantly though, with the PlayStation app running on your device, you’ll be able to take advantage of the PlayStation 4’s Second Screen feature. The device’s touchscreen can work as an add-on screen to your gameplay, allowing “greater challenges and control,” according to Sony. Games such as the included Playroom will support Second Screen.
