It’s entirely understandable if you forgot about Star Wars: Eclipse. Since its 2021 announcement by developer Quantic Dream, there has been pretty much radio silence from the team. Part of that is due to unflattering reports about the company and its founders, David Cage and Guillaume de Fondaumière. Now it seems Quantic Dream is hoping people have mostly forgotten those allegations, as Cage has published a new blog post on the company’s website titled “Writing a New Chapter.”
In it, Cage confirmed that Quantic Dream entered a new phase of growth and innovation in 2018, doubling the size of its team and opening a new studio in Montreal. In addition, the company moved into new headquarters in Paris and built its next-generation proprietary technology while becoming its own publisher. The post also confirms that Quantic Dream has moved on from being a single-project studio and reveals a competitive multiplayer experience called Spellcasters Chronicles. That game is a 3v3 action-strategy title that will be free-to-play and is a departure from the story-driven narrative titles Quantic Dream is known for.
If you’ve never heard of Quantic Dream, its most notable games include Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human. Star Wars: Eclipse will continue on a similar path, focusing on storytelling as a branching action-adventure game set in the High Republic era. Unfortunately, all Cage did was acknowledge that it’s still in development and that more will be shared in the future.
