Paradox Interactive has had a rough few months, having to cancel Life by You and shutting down its studio, Paradox Tectonic. Last month, the publisher announced that the Cities: Skylines II console release has been delayed indefinitely, and now, Prison Architect 2 has gotten the same treatment. A post on the Paradox forum has confirmed that Prison Architect 2 is no longer releasing on September 3 and the game currently has no release date while the team works to improve the game’s performance and content.

“Our continuous internal reviews and beta test groups have highlighted areas that we need to focus on more, mainly performance and content, which we need to address before launch to ensure that you, the players, get a good experience in the game,” the post reads. “We need to raise the quality a bit more to meet the standards we’d like to achieve with this sequel.”

The developers will continue focusing on improving the game and building a more robust release timeline over the next few months, but Paradox Interactive wanted to make it clear that the game has not been canceled. Since it has been delayed indefinitely, preorders on all platforms will be refunded and the preorder items will be added to the base game.
