With Yoshi and the Mysterious Book only about a month away from launch, Nintendo dropped a new six-minute overview trailer today that digs into the gameplay systems and introduces a few new faces. Personally, with Yoshi being my favorite Nintendo character, this is one I’ve been looking forward to since it was first revealed during the September 2025 Nintendo Direct.
The trailer gets into Yoshi’s full moveset, including the classic tongue, eggs, Flutter Jump, and Ground Pound, along with a new Tail Flick ability that can be used to get creatures onto his back. It also introduces Crazee Dayzee (or whatever you want to name it), a flower-like creature with its own special abilities that Yoshi can work with to solve puzzles. Previous trailers showed off the bubble-blowing Glubbit, so it’s clear each creature is going to offer something meaningfully different rather than just a palette swap.
The trailer also confirms that Bowser Jr. and Kamek are poking around inside Mr. E’s pages, searching for a discovery of their own, which should provide the conflict driving the story forward. Nintendo also announced amiibo support, with scanning Yoshi or Poochy amiibo giving players bonus tokens that can be spent on creature hints.
Yoshi and the Mysterious Book launches exclusively on Switch 2 on May 21, 2026, with the digital version priced at $59.99 and the physical version at $69.99, which continues Nintendo’s split pricing for first-party Switch 2 games. Preorders are live now through the Nintendo eShop and physical retailers.
