Nintendo and The Pokémon Company group have confirmed that Pokémon Pokopia has passed five million units sold worldwide, counting both physical and digital copies. Both companies put that milestone at just over four months after the game’s March 5, 2026 launch on Switch 2. Back in March, it had already moved 2.2 million units in its first four days.

For those who haven’t picked it up, Pokopia casts you as a Ditto that has taken on a human-like form, dropped into a desolate world you rebuild using its transformation skills and a fairly deep crafting system. You gather resources, build habitats, and attract more Pokémon to move into them. For context on how five million stacks up, Nintendo reported earlier this month that the Switch 2 has sold 23.68 million units worldwide.

In my review, I called it the best Pokémon game I’ve ever played, and pointed out the irony that it’s not really a Pokémon game at all. No combat, no RPG elements, nothing resembling the traditional loop. I still thought it was incredible. I put over 60 hours in, rolled credits, built out both my personal Palette Town and a shared cloud island with friends, and estimated it would take somewhere between 100 and 150 hours to fill out the Pokédex completely.

The sales news arrives right as the game’s first wave of post-launch content goes live. The free update adding the Dive move, which lets Ditto explore underwater, went out earlier this month alongside Bubbly Basin, Part 1 of the paid Expansion Pass. Bubbly Basin opens up an underwater town with more Pokémon to find, new furniture to build, and new food to prepare. Part 2 follows in late 2026 and adds accessories for Pokémon to wear, while Part 3 is scheduled for 2027. The Expansion Pass is available on the Nintendo eShop.

I said in my review that I could easily see myself pouring another 60 hours into Pokopia. I’ve already sunk 20 hours into Bubbly Basin and with two more Expansion Pass parts still to come, another 40 hours are pretty much guaranteed.
