The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version will link with Pokémon HOME beginning in October, roughly seven months after the pair returned on Switch for the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Once the connection is live, any Pokémon you befriended in Kanto can be moved into Pokémon HOME and taken to other games in the series.
There is one significant catch that you’ll want to understand before you start moving your team around. Transfers out of Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version are one-way, so once a Pokémon leaves for another game, it cannot come back. Pokémon from elsewhere in the series can’t visit either, which means whatever you send out of Kanto stays out.
Completing the Pokédex in either version now earns you the Mythical Pokémon Celebi, delivered through the mobile version of Pokémon HOME. You don’t have to individually transfer everything to qualify, either. Connecting Pokémon HOME automatically registers anything already recorded in your in-game Pokédex, and the GTS is there if you still have gaps to fill through trading.
There’s more waiting after the credits for anyone who has cleared the main story. Defeating the Elite Four and entering the Hall of Fame automatically drops a Mystic Ticket and an Aurora Ticket into the Key Items pocket of your bag. The first opens up encounters with Lugia and Ho-Oh, and the second leads to Deoxys, which covers three of the more sought-after event Pokémon from this era of the series.
Pokémon HOME itself is getting its Version 4.1.0 update alongside all of this in October, and the headline change is storage. Premium Plan subscribers move from a 6,000 Pokémon deposit cap to 9,000, and the price of the plan isn’t going up. The update also adds support for transferring Pokémon caught with a Safari Ball in Pokémon GO for the first time, though the ball itself converts to a Strange Ball on arrival.
The less cheerful news in the same announcement is that Pokémon Bank, the Nintendo 3DS storage application, is shutting down. Service ends Thursday, February 25, 2027 at 7:00 PM Pacific (10:00 PM Eastern), and transfers from Pokémon Bank to Pokémon HOME stop at the same time. If you have anything sitting in there that you want to keep, move it to Pokémon HOME before that date, and note that Pokémon Bank is not currently available to download, so anyone who deleted the app has a problem on their hands.
