Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a new addition to its family of studios: teamLFG. Headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, teamLFG originated at Bungie and has rallied developers from across the industry to develop an ambitious incubation project. Sony has confirmed the studio is now fully formed and features members working both on-site and remotely throughout the U.S. and Canada. It comprises industry veterans who have worked on games like Destiny, Halo, League of Legends, Fortnite, Roblox, and Rec Room, along with industry newcomers.

While we don’t know the exact title teamLFG is working on, the studio did say it will be a team-based action game that draws inspiration from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games (whatever those are). The studio’s first title will be set in a brand-new, mythic, science-fantasy universe with a lighthearted and comedic atmosphere. Members of the team said they are passionate about exceptional action-based gameplay, moment-to-moment game feel, and richly social virtual worlds. Of course, gamers will know the LFG in teamLFG stands for Looking for Group, which reinforces the fact that it’s creating a game where players can find friendship, community, and belonging.

It’ll be interesting to see how teamLFG works out for Sony, considering last year’s disaster with Concord and Firewalk Studios. Concord was a team-based action game based on a brand-new IP, and it’s quite possibly the costliest misstep PlayStation has made in the past decade. Bungie also experienced turmoil last year, with 220 jobs cut. That was also the time when PlayStation Studios confirmed it was working to spin out one of its incubation projects to form a new studio, and now we know that studio is teamLFG.
