Nintendo appears to be maximizing Nintendo Switch sales by releasing numerous Mario games before announcing its inevitable successor. Today’s Nintendo Direct event concluded with the announcement of a remaster for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Originally released on the GameCube, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is heading to the Switch sometime in 2024 with updated graphics. It will certainly be a great follow up to the Super Mario RPG Remake launching later this year.

The remastered version’s release will coincide with the original game’s 20-year anniversary. Thousand-Year Door is the second game in the Paper Mario series. Its story centers around Princess Peach, who is captured by an alien group called the X-Nauts as she and Mario search for a mystic treasure.

Nintendo hasn’t revealed too many details about the game, promising that we’ll learn more in the future. The trailer that was released today, however, did reveal just how great the game looks with its “enhanced graphics” and it’s a great way for an entirely new generation of gamers to experience this wonderful adventure. It also has what I consider the best iteration of Yoshi yet.
