ArenaNet has announced a new addition to the Guild Wars franchise in the form of Mistbound, a competitive digital card game set in the world of Tyria. The game is being developed by a team at NCSoft in Korea, built with players in Asia in mind.

While the news comes from ArenaNet, the studio was clear on its role in Mistbound. It served as a consultant rather than the developer, with select ArenaNet team members advising NCSoft’s developers to keep the game true to the lore, world, and visual identity Guild Wars has built over more than two decades. ArenaNet also isn’t publishing it, making sure fans know it’s dedicated to the development of the recently announced Guild Wars 3.

On the release side, Mistbound heads into beta in China later this year on PC, published by bilibili, which ArenaNet described as both a strong publishing partner and a group of Guild Wars fans in its own right. At launch, it’s China-only. A wider release in other regions isn’t off the table, but ArenaNet says that decision will come later, once the team has had time to iterate on feedback from players closer to home.

ArenaNet closed its message by saying it’s looking forward to seeing how players in China respond to the card game. Anyone who wants a closer look can check out the official Mistbound site.
