Capcom used Gamescom Opening Night Live to show off more of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, while also expanding the game’s public demo. The demo is now available on Switch 2 and the Microsoft Store, while the existing PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Steam, and Epic Games Store versions received an update today with new content.
The biggest addition is a second quest that takes players into the Oni Refuge, a surreal area offering another early slice of the story. The new section introduces additional gameplay mechanics and ends with a battle against Daidara, a towering Genma boss. The original demo already offered an early look at the game’s swordplay, so there is now a bit more to play before the full release arrives next month.
Capcom also debuted its new “The Challenges That Await” trailer during the show, focusing heavily on some of the bosses Miyamoto Musashi will face. Ifuu and Burai are introduced as a pair who wield wind and thunder, while another sequence shows Musashi dueling Dokyo. The trailer also provides the first gameplay footage of Musashi in his fully awakened Oni form.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches September 4 for PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store. The Standard Edition will be available physically and digitally, while the Deluxe and Premium Deluxe editions are digital-only. The upgraded editions add various cosmetics and charms, with the Premium Deluxe Edition also including an in-game soundtrack. Anyone who buys the Standard, Deluxe, or Premium Deluxe edition before September 24 will also receive the Early Adopter Bonuses.
