Capcom’s Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches September 25, 2026 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The release date was announced during PlayStation’s June 2 State of Play, alongside a free demo that is available now across all three platforms.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a new entry in Capcom’s sword-fighting action series. It follows Miyamoto Musashi after he gains the power of the Oni, set in Kyoto during the early Edo period as he faces the monstrous Genma overrunning the city. The new trailer focuses on Mount Oe, a mountain range outside Kyoto that serves as the stronghold of Shuten Doji, a colossal Genma who claims to be the Oni of legend.

Combat centers on swordplay built around parrying and deflecting, the signature Issen critical attack, and superhuman abilities fueled by Oni power. Capcom detailed three of these techniques. Reflex Combo builds a Reflex Dodge gauge as players continuously dodge attacks, unleashing a powerful combo once the gauge fills. Oni Strength shatters enemy defenses with heavy blows and aids exploration, while Oni Agility clears paths with bursts of speed and lets Musashi run across certain walls to reach new areas.

The demo covers about 30 minutes of the early story, set in the Kiyomizu-dera Temple stage and ending in a battle against Musashi’s rival, Sasaki Ganryu. It lets players try techniques including Parry, Deflect, Issen, Oni Armament, and absorbing souls. Progress does not carry over to the full game, but players with demo save data will receive the Charm: Kubi Akari, which grants a beneficial effect to Musashi.

Preorders are open now and bonuses include the Charm: Lion Dog, which grants a buff, and the Sword Appearance: Sealed Curse, which customizes Musashi’s sword. A Deluxe Edition pairs the base game with a Deluxe Kit of charms, an outfit, and skins, while a Premium Deluxe Edition includes everything in the Deluxe Kit plus a Premium Kit with ally outfits, more skins, and a digital soundtrack. Preordering either edition grants an extra charm and sword appearance on top of the standard bonuses.
