Nintendo has scheduled The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct for Tuesday, September 8, with the news going out first through the Nintendo Today! app before landing on the company’s social channels. The presentation streams at 7:00 AM Pacific (10:00 AM Eastern) and will run approximately 30 minutes. The Legend of Zelda officially turned 40 back in February, and until now, Nintendo hadn’t said much about how it planned to celebrate beyond the one game everyone already knows about.
That game is the Ocarina of Time remake, which Nintendo confirmed for Switch 2 at the June Direct with a 2026 window and a teaser that lasted about as long as it takes to read this sentence. There’s still no release date, though Nintendo has since told investors the game remains on track for this year. Nintendo hasn’t shared an agenda for the 40th Anniversary Direct. Personally, I expect more details on the Ocarina of Time remake and possibly a trailer for the live-action movie.
Speaking of the movie, Nintendo moved it up to April 30, 2027 earlier this year, with Wes Ball directing and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason cast as Link and Zelda. Outside of a first look, Nintendo hasn’t shown much of it yet. As I said in my Tears of the Kingdom review, 1998 me was too engrossed in Ocarina of Time to imagine what Hyrule would look like decades later, so a remake and a movie arriving within months of each other is exciting as a Legend of Zelda fan.
The Zelda broadcast isn’t the only one on the calendar, either. A standard Nintendo Direct follows on Wednesday, September 9, also at 7:00 AM Pacific (10:00 AM Eastern), running approximately 45 minutes and followed by a Nintendo Treehouse: Live session with gameplay from select titles. Both presentations stream on Nintendo’s YouTube channel and through the Nintendo Today! app. Between PlayStation’s pair of State of Plays this week and Nintendo’s two Directs next week, September isn’t wasting any time.
