The release date for The Legend of Zelda’s live-action film continues to bounce around. Last June, the release got delayed from March 26 to May 7, 2027. Now Shigeru Miyamoto has shared a small bit of good news for fans, confirming that the worldwide release is being moved up to April 30, 2027.
It’s only a one-week shift, but it’s the rare case of a Hollywood release date moving up rather than getting pushed back. “The team is working hard to deliver the film to everyone as soon as possible,” Miyamoto said, adding that there’s less than a year to go until release. Principal photography wrapped in New Zealand back in April, and we got our first official look at Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link in November 2025.
Here’s to hoping this is the last time the release date for the movie moves. Nintendo hasn’t given an official reason for the shift, but it lines up neatly with Japan’s Golden Week, which in 2027 runs April 29 to May 5. The original May 7 date would have landed Zelda after the holiday window closed, while the new April 30 slot puts it squarely inside Golden Week, Japan’s biggest theatrical box office stretch of the year. Nintendo pulled a similar move with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, releasing it in Japan on April 24, 2026, the Friday right before Golden Week 2026 kicked off.
That one is currently the highest-grossing film of 2026, so it’s clear Nintendo isn’t lacking confidence in its theatrical strategy. Whether Wes Ball’s live-action take on Hyrule can match that box office momentum remains to be seen, but at least fans now have one less week to wait.
