The Marvel Heroes X-Defense survival mode has been added to the online action RPG, Gazillion has announced. The free-to-play game was originally released on June 4, 2013 for the PC and is essentially a Diablo-like game set in a Marvel universe. And naturally it’s alright to call it a Diablo clone considering Gazillion’s president is David Brevik, former co-founder of Blizzard North, which was responsible for the Diablo series.

While Marvel Heroes did have its issues at launch, the team at Gazillion has been working hard to improve the quality of the game. As for the new X-Defense survival mode, players will encounter a never-ending onslaught of enemies attacking Xavier’s School. Players will have to defeat waves of super-villains while protecting students in order to survive as long as possible. If they manage to defeat all the super-villains, a new wave will spawn after a short countdown timer. Each subsequent wave will get more difficulty but the mobs also drop better loot.

For those that played Marvel Heroes when it was first released, like many of our staff members, the X-Defense survival mode is a replacement for Limbo, which was removed from the game several patches back. If you haven’t had a chance to check out the game, Full Cleared would recommend it considering it’s free-to-play. It’s pretty entertaining and does a lot of things right, but also does some things wrong. The good thing is, Gazillion has been working hard to make Marvel Heroes a better game.
