One of the more exciting premieres at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 was LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, from developer TT Games. The same team behind the popular LEGO Games franchise is putting its unique spin on 86 years of Batman history when LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight arrives in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC. Aspiring to be the definitive LEGO Batman story, the game begins with young Bruce Wayne training with the League of Shadows and follows him through becoming Batman and facing iconic villains such as the Joker, the Penguin, Poison Ivy, Ra’s al Ghul, Bane, and more. Joining Batman on the journey are well-known allies, including Jim Gordon, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Catwoman, and Talia al Ghul.
As expected, TT Games is sprinkling in its signature humor with a bit of Batman flair, but we’re most interested in learning more about the game’s new combat system. The team promises Batman’s distinctive fighting style—every hit packing a punch—along with fluid attack chains, counters, and over-the-top takedowns. Hopefully TT Games has taken some notes from the Batman: Arkham series, which are arguably still the best Batman games ever created. The studio added that players will use iconic Bat-gadgets such as Batarangs and the Batclaw, while partner characters have their own signature gear.
Of course, the game will take place in a Gotham City that has been transformed into an open-world LEGO playground. There, players can roam Gotham to stop crimes and solve puzzles, collecting rewards and discovering surprises as you’d expect from a LEGO game. Best of all, they’ll be able to live out that LEGO Batman fantasy by grappling and zipping from building to building with Batman’s grapple launcher. We even get a glimpse of the iconic Batglider and vehicles like the Batmobile and Batcycle. Players can also customize the Batcave with vehicles, trophies, and collectibles.
While LEGO games are typically designed for a younger audience, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will feature a Caped Crusader difficulty and an even more challenging Dark Knight mode for those who want a tougher playthrough. We’re pretty excited for this one, and we’re confident it’ll be a blast to play with friends in co-op.
