Kena: Scars of Kosmora is no longer coming in 2026, as Ember Lab has pushed its sequel into 2027 to give the game more polish. In a PlayStation Blog post, the studio says it wants to top the quality of 2021’s Kena: Bridge of Spirits at a much bigger scale, which requires a bit more time. Ember Lab announced Scars of Kosmora during February’s State of Play with a 2026 target, and it hasn’t shared a more specific 2027 date yet.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits was one of my favorite surprises of 2021, and when the sequel was announced, I said the first game had some rather basic parts. I also said it had a lot of great ideas that just needed more time to cook. When Bridge of Spirits headed to Switch 2 a few weeks later, I said Ember Lab seemed to know what it was doing on a limited budget. I couldn’t wait to see what the sequel would bring with a larger budget and the lessons learned from the original.

Alongside the delay, Ember Lab shared a story overview that picks up with Kena as an experienced Spirit Guide, part warrior and part spiritual healer. She has helped the spirits of the dead, but she has yet to explore what Spirit Guiding looks like for the living. Her childhood friend Orfio believes the mysterious island of Kosmora holds the answers they’ve both been looking for, so Kena sets out to meet him. Kosmora was once home to four interconnected cultures, each built around a guiding Element, until a mysterious cataclysm destroyed one of them. The island’s Alchemystic Temples are a big part of the game, serving as dungeons that test players’ skills and pay off with transformative rewards.
Like Bridge of Spirits, Scars of Kosmora is a character-focused linear adventure, though Ember Lab says its scope is broader and deeper, with more to find for players who stray from the main path. Kena also has a new crystalline canine companion tied to the island’s origins, which serves as a mount and helps her in combat, both mounted and on foot, as well as with Alchemystic puzzles. Kena: Scars of Kosmora is coming to PlayStation 5 in physical and digital form and to PC digitally, and it’s available to wishlist now.
