With the recent announcement of Kena: Scars of Kosmora, it’s a smart move by developer Ember Lab to put the first game back on everyone’s radar. To do that, Kena: Bridge of Spirits is officially heading to the Nintendo Switch 2 this spring. The Switch 2 version includes the Anniversary DLC, which features Charmstones, Spirit Guide Trials, Kena Outfits, and accessibility features. It will also have a New Game+ mode with redesigned, more challenging combat encounters.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits was possibly the biggest surprise of 2021 for me. I purchased it on a whim since I got locked out of Diablo II: Resurrected and ended up loving the time I spent with the game. There are certain portions of the game that are a bit basic, but overall, it’s filled with great ideas, a lot of polish, wonderful visuals, and a charming cast of characters. The combat is the biggest surprise, with a good amount of depth and challenge. It really does seem like Ember Lab knows what it’s doing, but it had a limited budget with Kena: Bridge of Spirits. I can’t wait to see what its sequel, Kena: Scars of Kosmora, brings with a larger budget and the lessons learned from the original.
