Kena: Bridge of Spirits was one of my favorite surprises of 2021. I still remember buying it on a whim after I was part of the small percentage of players who got locked out of Diablo II: Resurrected at launch. Since I had already taken days off work to play Diablo II: Resurrected (but couldn’t), I spent those days going through everything Kena: Bridge of Spirits had to offer instead. While some parts of the game were rather basic, there were a lot of great ideas on the surface that I felt could be really great if it had more time to cook in the oven.
Fortunately, it appears the game did well enough to warrant a sequel, which was announced during today’s State of Play. Developer Ember Lab unveiled Kena: Scars of Kosmora, starring an older Kena who is now renowned as a Spirit Guide. She’s also gotten into the habit of using her skills to help the living, and in doing so, she adventures to the island of Kosmora. There, she hopes to find answers to the affliction she has dealt with all her life.
Shortly after arriving on Kosmora, Kena is confronted by a powerful spirit that fractures her staff. Not only does she need that staff to help and commune with spirits, it’s also keeping her alive. As a result, Kena’s forced to accept Kosmora’s forgotten form of Spirit Guiding, which uses Alchemy to manipulate the power of the elements, in order to survive. Kena will also be accompanied by elemental spirit companions, who will travel with her, grow over time, and unlock new powers as their bond deepens.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a release date yet for Kena: Scars of Kosmora, but Ember Lab is aiming to have it release in 2026.
