Pricing for Gran Turismo 6′s microtransactions has been officially announced and it may not sit well with fans of the franchise. Now of course the microtransactions are entirely optional and really provide a shortcut for players that don’t wish to race over and over in order to gain enough credits to purchase their favorite virtual car. The problem is, the packages don’t exactly translate well into affordable cars, even virtually.
According to Sony, the packages will be sold in increments of 500,000 in-game credits with 500,000 credits costing $4.99. One-million credits will run the player $9.99 while 2.5 million will cost $19.99 and 7.5 million will run $49.99.
While we don’t know pricing on some of the vehicles yet, it is believed that they will be similar to real life pricing of the cars – that is, a $30,000 car will cost 30,000 credits. Now fans of the Gran Turismo franchise are well aware that there are some vehicles that cost upwards of 20-million credits, which means a car could potentially cost over $130.
But again, Gran Turismo 6 wasn’t exactly designed and developed as a free-to-play game with microtransactions. Instead, they’re being offered as a way for players to quickly get what they want, that is if they have the wallet for it.
Gran Turismo 6 will be released on the PlayStation 3 on Friday, December 6 in North America.
