At long last, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be available on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S on January 22, 2026. It will also be added to PC via Xbox, with Xbox Play Anywhere support, though the game has been available on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store for quite some time now. Switch 2 and Xbox players will get access to a new feature called “Streamlined Progression,” which makes it easier to jump in. Streamlined Progression adds unlimited MP and HP at all times, unlimited Limit and ATB gauges during battles, 9,999 damage, easier weapon ability acquisition, and more. It’s all in hopes of streamlining gameplay so players can focus on the story.
Preorders are available today, and those who choose the digital edition will receive the original Final Fantasy VII. Strangely, Xbox players get access to the original immediately after a preorder purchase, but Nintendo Switch 2 players will have to wait until January 22, 2026. As for the physical edition, preorders include a Magic: The Gathering Final Fantasy Play Booster, which contains 15 randomly assorted cards. I couldn’t help but laugh at this preorder bonus, as someone who has spent a lot of money trying to collect a master set of Final Fantasy Magic: The Gathering.
Today’s announcement also confirmed that the entire Final Fantasy VII remake series will eventually come to Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S. The third part of the trilogy is currently in development, and hopefully we’ll hear more about it soon. No word yet on when Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, one of the best games I’ve ever played, will make its way to Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S.
