Like it did on PlayStation, Square Enix has released a free demo for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, ahead of its full release on January 22, 2026. Progress and save data from the demo carry over to the full game, so anyone who is remotely interested in experiencing the first game in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy should get the free demo. It’s the same sequence as the PlayStation demo, where players go through the game’s now iconic opening chapter featuring Cloud and Avalanche setting off to destroy a Mako Reactor.

Those who purchase the full game and have demo save data will be able to claim the bonus items, Revival Earrings and the Survival Set, when the game launches early next year. If you choose to preorder after playing the demo, the digital edition comes with the original Final Fantasy VII for a limited time. On Xbox, the download is available immediately after a preorder purchase, while Switch 2 players will have to wait until January 22, 2026, to get access to the original game. This bonus runs until January 31, 2026. Preordering the Switch 2 physical edition includes a Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy Play Booster, which contains 15 randomly assorted cards.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade includes Final Fantasy VII Remake Episode Intermission, which introduces Yuffie Kisaragi as she infiltrates Midgar during the events of the base game.

While I don’t have a review for Final Fantasy VII Remake published, I do have one for the second installment in the remake trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which I currently consider the best game I’ve ever played. Final Fantasy VII Remake really is more of an appetizer than a main course, with a fairly linear campaign that spends a lot of time setting up the stage and characters for the epic story. There’s currently no word yet on the third title in the trilogy, or when Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be available on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S.
