Well, the announcement of a remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics finally came true with Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles launching on September 30, 2025. This brings the classic strategy RPG from 1997 to modern consoles and will include two versions of the game. The enhanced version adds fully voiced dialogue, an optimized and updated UI, graphical improvements, and numerous quality-of-life features. One of those features is the more accessible “Squire” difficulty, designed for first-time players. The other version is the classic version, which combines the graphics and gameplay of the original with the War of the Lions translation. While the version does stay true to the original in almost every aspect, there are some new modern features like auto-save.
Many consider Final Fantasy Tactics one of the greatest strategy RPGs of all time, with a compelling narrative and memorable characters. It tells the story of Ivalice and stars Ramza, third son of the House Beoulve, and his child companion Delita, a commoner raised among nobles. The turn-based strategic combat system has players assembling teams and using the terrain to their advantage. Characters have access to over 20 jobs to master, including iconic Final Fantasy classes like white mage, black mage, and dragoon.
Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles comes from Creative Studio III, the team behind the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV and the recent Final Fantasy XVI.
