Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is out on Switch 2 today, one of two shadow drops Square Enix slipped into today’s Nintendo Direct alongside a Romancing SaGa 3 remake and a free demo for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World. The other surprise release is Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko’s Mystery Dungeon Classic HD, a 1993 spin-off that has never been released outside Japan until now.
Starting with Crisis Core, the Switch 2 version is the same 2022 remaster that hit other platforms, with HD character models, UI, and backgrounds, full English and Japanese voice acting, and a streamlined action combat system with optional Limit Breaks and Summons. Square Enix is pitching it as a way to catch up on the events that set up Final Fantasy VII Revelation, which closes out the remake trilogy on April 8, 2027. A 30 percent launch discount runs through September 23, and the game is now available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, XBOX One, XBOX Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC.
Torneko’s Mystery Dungeon Classic HD follows Torneko, the weapons merchant from Dragon Quest IV, as he raids randomized dungeons for treasure to grow his item shop. Every action Torneko takes, whether moving, attacking, or using an item, gives monsters a turn to respond, which is the loop that kicked off the traditional roguelike genre in Japan back in 1993. The remaster gets a storybook-style world from Naoki Ikushima, the illustrator behind the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake and Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake packaging, plus a new opening video, quality-of-life updates, and interactive streaming features exclusive to the Steam version. It’s available now on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United is a full HD remake of the 1995 RPG from the team behind Trials of Mana and Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, and it launches February 16, 2027 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam and XBOX on PC, with preorders open now. The remake keeps the Freeform Scenario system, where players pick one of eight heroes and choose which lands to visit, which stories to pursue, and the order in which to fight the Four Sinistrals. Kenji Ito’s original compositions return alongside newly arranged versions made under his supervision, and event scenes are fully voiced in Japanese and English. The setup is the Rise of Morastrum, a cosmic event every 300 years that kills everyone born that year except a single Child of Destiny, and the Sinistrals have come back a little over a decade after the last one to reopen the Abyss Gates.
Finally, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World now has a free demo covering the game’s first chapter, and up to eight monsters recruited in it can be carried into the full game when it launches December 3. The demo is up now on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam and XBOX on PC, and it introduces dual protagonists Bianca and Nera, the synthesis system, and the world of Witherwood. Square Enix puts the monster count at more than 500, and preorders remain open with the early purchase bonus detailed in July.
