After making its debut in September 2025 during a Nintendo Direct, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined’s release is now around the corner on February 5. Before that, Square Enix is releasing a free demo on January 7 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC. Like the other Square Enix demos in recent years, progress and save data from the demo can be carried over to the full game. Those who check out the demo will get the “Day Off Dress” costume for Maribel to use when the game releases.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is more of a remake than a remaster, as it’s getting a significant upgrade in the visual department. The team also said it’s refining gameplay and tightening the pacing of the story. Players can also expect an updated vocation system with a Moonlighting mechanic that lets them use two vocations at once. The demo announcement also included the game’s opening movie, which shows off its 3D art style that’s based on dolls created in the real world.
