The Dragon Quest series is getting another mobile game, currently scheduled to launch in 2026 on iOS and Android devices. It’s called Dragon Quest Smash/Grow, and it’ll be a roguelite RPG where players smash hordes of monsters to get stronger, then finish them off with Dragon Quest’s signature Coup de Grâce attacks. Those who have played games like Vampire Survivors will be familiar with the core gameplay loop here, as players can choose among random Blessings to get more powerful.
While the game isn’t set to launch until next year, it is hosting a closed beta test from October 14 to October 21. Pre-registration for the closed beta test is available on iOS via TestFlight and on Android via Google Play until October 2. Those who are interested can apply here.
For a while, it seemed like Square Enix was going to give up on mobile games, especially since it has recently ended service for several of them, including some of my personal favorites: Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia, NieR Re[in]carnation, and War of the Visions Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. The Dragon Quest series is getting a lot of attention these days, with last year’s Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake being a success, Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake set to launch in October, and the recently announced Dragon Quest VII Reimagined.
