The 22nd BAFTA Games Awards took place tonight at the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and after leading the nominations with 12 nods, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 walked away with three wins, including the big one: Best Game. It also took home Debut Game, and Jennifer English won Performer in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Maelle. Surprisingly, it did not take home Best Music.

Matching Clair Obscur’s three-win total was Dispatch, AdHoc Studio’s debut title, which took home Animation, Audio Achievement, and Performer in a Supporting Role for Jeffrey Wright as Chase. Honestly, that’s a huge night for AdHoc Studio, and it’s well-deserved. For a lot of people, Dispatch came out of nowhere and ended up being one of the most talked-about games of the year. Ghost of Yōtei rounded out the multi-win titles with two BAFTAs, for Music and Technical Achievement.

Elsewhere, the awards were spread pretty wide. Atomfall won British Game, while Death Stranding 2: On the Beach took home Artistic Achievement. Blue Prince won Game Design, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II won Narrative, Arc Raiders won Multiplayer, South of Midnight won New Intellectual Property, LEGO Party! won Family, and No Man’s Sky continued its incredible post-launch journey by winning Evolving Game. Despelote, a debut game, won Game Beyond Entertainment.

The BAFTA Fellowship was presented to Supercell CEO and co-founder Ilkka Paananen in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the industry. It’s a big honor, and a pretty fitting one given Supercell’s impact on mobile gaming with titles like Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, and Brawl Stars. The Fellowship celebrates individuals who’ve driven innovation, creativity, and positive change in the screen arts over the course of their careers.

We had a feeling Clair Obscur was going to be the story of the night, and between Best Game, Debut Game, and a leading performance win, it absolutely was. Three wins out of 12 nominations might look modest on paper, but this is an incredibly competitive year, and Sandfall Interactive walked out of tonight with Best Game. That’s the prize that matters for most.
