Cities: Skylines’ first expansion, After Dark, will be released on September 24, Paradox Interactive has revealed in a blog post on the Steam Community. Priced at $14.99, After Dark will include a broad variety of features, some of which will also be heading to current Cities: Skylines owners for free such as the day-and-night cycle. To reveal more details on the upcoming expansion, the developer also posted a dev diary explaining that each and every building in the expansion has received a new texture layer to have the windows light up nicely at night. There are also new lighted signs, neon signs and other lights to give life to your city once the sun sets.

The day-and-night cycle won’t be merely cosmetic however, as citizens will go out less and prefer to stay indoors once it gets dark. To simulate a night shift, some citizens will still go to work, while other people that do go out are looking for entertainment. After Dark will also add a separate night time budget to adjust how active services are during the night and day. For example, you can set garbage trucks to mainly operate during the evening, as well as hearses picking up the bodies at an increased rate since there’s less traffic on the roadways.
Those paying for the expansion will also get access to leisure specialization, beach specialization, expanded city services (taxi service, cargo hubs and an international airport) and new transportation options such as bikes and dedicated bike lanes.
