Following January’s Regal Update, Ball x Pit is back with its second major free content drop. The Shadow Update launches next Monday, April 27, continuing the three-update plan outlined back in December. This one leans into time manipulation, with new ball evolutions that freeze and warp enemies on the field.

The update adds two new characters. The Tunneller is a scrappy miner whose shots wrap around the screen and come back in from the other side, making just about every angle fair game. The Tiptoer is a fragile but deadly ninja that stays undetected by enemies at close range at the cost of lower health and damage. Eleven new balls join the rotation, including Timestop, which does exactly what it sounds like and freezes everything on the field for a few seconds, and Erosion, which shaves off a percentage of an enemy’s current health with each hit. Four new passives round things out, along with a new building called the Guildhall that lets players reroll previously chosen character upgrades.

As one of our favorite games of 2025, Ball x Pit has been a constant presence in my rotation. The Shadow Update’s focus on time manipulation should introduce some genuinely chaotic run possibilities, and the Guildhall in particular could be a game changer for anyone who regret-clicks upgrades early in a run. It’s been impressive to see how consistently the team has supported the game since launch.
