When Ball x Pit released its final free update last month, Devolver Digital and developer Kenny Sun teased big news coming in the very near future. I said at the time that it sure sounded like paid DLC or a full expansion was in the works, and it turns out it’s the latter. Ball x Pit: Risen Ballbylon is a paid post-game expansion launching on November 12 for $6.99 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, Android, iOS, and PC. Keep in mind that none of the new content is accessible until you’ve completed the base game.

Instead of descending deeper into the pit, the lift now goes up to Risen Ballbylon, which floats high in the sky above it. Each of its levels is a layer of the old city, where the residents have been warped by the same meteor that created the pit. The expansion adds four new battlefields, each with its own boss, along with over 40 new enemies and eight new characters to recruit. That’s two more characters than January’s Regal Update, April’s Shadow Update, and August’s Naturalist Update added combined. Three of them have been detailed so far: the Sentinel can aim in any direction, the Stonewaller warps balls to the other side the first time they hit a wall, and the Right Hand Man deals double damage when balls hit the right wall but only half on the left.

As for the balls, Risen Ballbylon adds 24 new ones to experiment with for fusions. Those include the Beast ball, which latches onto enemies and damages them until they die, the Kaiju ball that triggers quakes, the Misfortune ball that inflicts curses, and the spiky Hedgehog ball. Another 45 passives are being added, with Lucky Coin, Eldritch Gauntlet, Vampire’s Kiss, Volatile Explosive, and Relentless Whip among those named so far. In my review, my biggest criticism was that Ball x Pit eventually feels too easy, and that there wasn’t enough variety in balls and passives to make you feel like you had to make do with what you’ve got. Devolver Digital says the expansion introduces new gameplay mechanics meant to test veteran players, though it hasn’t explained what those are yet.

Back in town, there are 20 new buildings to construct, including a Floating Fortress, Crystal Monolith, Soup Kitchen, Circus Tent, and Fission Chamber. Players will also mine for crystals, a new resource that Devolver Digital says adds more complexity to the game’s economy. I said in my review that I really love the design of the town, since upgrading it feels just as rewarding as completing a run, and Ball x Pit ended up being one of our favorite games of 2025. If you haven’t played it yet, the base game costs $14.99 and joins the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog on September 22 in the U.S. You can read the full Risen Ballbylon announcement over on Steam.
