We’ve known since March that Ubisoft was working on Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the long-rumored remake of 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag. Today’s worldwide reveal showcase filled in the details: the game launches on July 9, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through the Ubisoft Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. It’ll also be available day one on Ubisoft+ and through streaming services Nvidia GeForce Now and Blacknut.
Led by Ubisoft Singapore, Black Flag Resynced has been rebuilt from the ground up on the latest version of the Anvil engine, the same tech powering Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Combat has been reworked with parry-driven encounters, new visceral takedowns, quick-fire rope dart and pistol moves, and a new enemy archetype called the Demolitionist. Stealth sees meaningful upgrades too, including a new Observe mode that extends Edward’s Eagle Vision, the ability to crouch anywhere on land, and a dive-anywhere mechanic for stealthy approaches to seafront locations and ships.
Shadows and low light now affect Edward’s visibility during stealth sequences. Parkour has been tightened with a manual jump, side ejects, and height-gaining back ejects, while naval combat adds new secondary weapons like shrapnel barrels that damage enemy sails and 8-pounders that open up weakpoints in hulls. Enemy ships and factions have been reworked to carry different equipment based on their alliances, and dynamic weather and destructible objects courtesy of Anvil’s Atmos system make the Caribbean feel more alive than before.

The core story still follows Edward Kenway’s journey across the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy, including his run-ins with legendary figures like Blackbeard, Anne Bonny, and Calico Jack. Ubisoft is expanding Edward’s tale with new content, including dedicated storylines for fan-favorites like Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. Three new officers also join Edward as part of the main narrative, each bringing a special ability to naval combat. Kenway’s Fleet has been reworked to generate passive income through rare activities and trading, now accessible from the Captain’s Cabin. Playas have been reworked with new rewards and unique encounters, and smaller touches like a photo mode, ship’s pets (a cat or monkey companion), and 10 brand-new sea shanties alongside the originals round out the package.
Matt Ryan, the original voice of Edward Kenway, is back to record brand-new lines for Resynced and is also hosting the worldwide reveal showcase, which is a nice touch for longtime fans. Ubisoft also confirmed that Grammy-nominated artist Woodkid is returning to the Assassin’s Creed franchise to collaborate on a reimagined track, set to be revealed later this year. If you played Death Stranding 2, you already know what Woodkid brings to a game.
