Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has crossed three million copies sold worldwide just one week into its run on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC. That’s another million on top of the two million it moved on day one, and Vantage Studios, the Ubisoft company that announced the milestone, says the remake is showing continued momentum through its first week.
The game set an Assassin’s Creed record on Steam at launch with an eventual peak of 104,756 concurrent players, earned the franchise’s best critic scores since the 2013 original, and its Steam user reviews now sit at Very Positive. Ubisoft credits its post-launch support for the player sentiment, pointing to quality of life updates, bug fixes, and the recently announced New Game+ mode, which was one of the most requested features from players.
As I said in my review of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the remake is a great experience after roughly 40 hours on a PlayStation 5 Pro, particularly for newcomers like me who never played Edward Kenway’s story the first time around. I also noted that Ubisoft’s goal seemed obvious, which is to pull new players into the franchise, and three million copies in a week seems like that strategy might just work. As we said when the game hit two million, this is the kind of launch Ubisoft has been waiting for after a rough couple of years.
Led by Ubisoft Singapore, Resynced is a ground-up remake of 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag built on the latest Anvil engine, and it’s also playable through Ubisoft+ and Steam Deck Verified for portable pirates. Whether the remake keeps this pace through the summer remains to be seen, but New Game+ should at least give early finishers a reason to set sail again.
