Aspyr has announced DreamWorks Shrek 2 Remastered, an updated version of the 2004 action-adventure game, and it launches on November 10 for PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The original Shrek 2 came from Luxoflux and Activision in May 2004 on GameCube, PlayStation 2, and the original XBOX, and Aspyr itself handled the Mac port that same year, so this isn’t the studio’s first time with the game. Of course, November 10 is also nine days before GTA VI arrives, and while just about everyone else has spent 2026 moving their games out of Rockstar’s way, Shrek 2 Remastered apparently isn’t backing down.

The remaster rebuilds the game with better textures, an updated UI, 4K resolution, and new cutscenes, with 4K supported on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch 2 in docked mode, and PC. The bigger additions are a Photo Mode, a Cheats Menu, and co-op for up to four players, which works as couch co-op, online multiplayer, or a mix of the two. Players can also swap between Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, and the rest of the cast at any time on every platform, using each character’s abilities to deal with enemies, bosses, and environmental puzzles on the way from Shrek’s swamp to the castle in Far Far Away.

This is Aspyr’s second licensed co-op revival in three months, following The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition in August. As I said when that one was announced, Aspyr has done well with its remasters for the most part, including Star Wars: Bounty Hunter and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered, though Deus Ex Remastered was delayed indefinitely last December after fans criticized its visual style. Shrek 2 Remastered is available to preorder now at $26.99, a 10 percent discount from the regular $29.99 price, though PlayStation 5 owners need a PlayStation Plus subscription to get it. The Steam listing shows the discount running through November 17, and Aspyr has more details on the official site.
