Star Wars Battlefront will be released on November 17 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, EA has announced. The company also released a new trailer showing in-game footage and the game looks simply stunning. Star Wars Battlefront is being developed by DICE, the same minds behind the Battlefield series, and will allow players to choose either the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire. As you can see from the trailer below, numerous iconic Star Wars locations, characters and ships make an appearance including Hoth, Tattooine, Darth Vader and Boba Fett. According to DICE, the game can be played in either first- or third-person mode based on your preference and the company is focusing on online multiplayer with up to 40-player battles. There will also be offline challenges inspired by the movies that can be played solo, cooperatively online or split-screen. Unfortunately, the game won’t have a traditional campaign, which might be a disappointment for some.
Now if you’re a Star Wars fan, there’s plenty to be excited about just by watching the trailer. Everything about the game, from its environments to models, looks gorgeous and it’s alright if you can’t wait to watch an X-Wing blast a Tie Fighter in a dogfight. Speaking of which, DICE did say that dogfights will be available in the game but don’t expect anything happening in space – so if you’re hoping for a new-generation X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter minigame, you’re out of luck.
One unique mechanic being introduced in Star Wars Battlefront is the “Partner” system, where players will be able to pick a friend and form a tag team. Partners will be able to share their unlocks and they’ll “always play together, spawn on each other, see each other,” according to Niklas Fegraeus, design director on Star Wars Battlefront.
