Battleborn has been revealed as a “next-gen hero-shooter” according to its developer Gearbox Software, the minds behind the Borderlands franchise. What looks to be a first-person MOBA shooter similar to Smite, Battleborn will allow players to choose from a myriad of powerful heroes to fight together in an intense cooperative campaign as well as battling against them in fast-paced competitive multiplayer matches.
In the Battleborn reveal trailer, it appears Gearbox had no problems merging a number of genres into the game, with fantasy and sci-fi both making an appearance, along with characters toting gigantic guns. The game’s Facebook page is mentioning a 2015 release date, though Gearbox’s press release stated that it’ll be released any time before March 31, 2016 which is Take Two’s fiscal year 2016. It is likely that Battleborn will be introduced in beta form next year before officially being released in 2016.
