In 1988, Nintendo released Super Mario Bros. 2 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, and allowed players to choose from Mario, Luigi, Toad or Princess Peach as playable characters. Back then, it didn’t exactly break the mold for Mario games considering it was the second instalment in the storied franchise, but the majority (not all) of Mario games since had our favorite plumber rescuing Princess Peach.
Super Mario 3D World, which is heading to the Wii U on November 22, will allow players to once again choose from Mario, Luigi, Toad or Princess Peach in a mission to once again take down the evil Bowser. And yet again, Nintendo has found ways to keep the series fresh with all new power ups that including the ability to transform into a Goomba. There’s also a cherry power up that will duplicate your character while inheriting other power ups you may have had to all your clones.
