Nintendo has released a new video showcasing 10 new things heading to Super Mario 3D World for the Wii U. It’s hard to believe that after all these iterations of Mario games over the past decades that the franchise can continue to feel fresh, but based on this video, Nintendo has done just that.
Obviously Super Mario 3D World will be our first 3D Mario game in full high definition, but that’s not one of the 10 new things Nintendo is bragging about. Instead, the video showcases Super Mario 3D World’s integration with the Wii U GamePad, allowing gamers to not only have touchscreen controls but can also take advantage of the microphone to interact with stages in the game. Next is the Golden Express stage, where players will catch a ride on a golden train overflowing with coins.
Super Mario 3D World will also feature Captain Toad levels, where players will take on the role of Toad in order to collect five stars in a puzzling 3D world without jumping. Then there is the addition of Speed Run levels for all those that have taken a liking to gathering as many coins and blitzing through a stage as quickly as possible. On those levels, the clock will be set to 100 seconds presenting a new challenge even for seasoned veterans.
Fifth on the list are Mystery Houses where players can complete rapid-fire challenges for green stars. Then there’s the Motley Boss Blob that will have Super Mario 3D World players taking on a giant boss as an ever-growing army of clones – that’s right, four Marios! Super Mario 3D World will also add a top-down shooter stage that has players cutting down waves of enemies in an old-school shooter level.
If that isn’t enough to get you excited, Super Mario 3D World will also be adding a Kart-style stage where players will have to dash to the finish, Mario Kart style. Ninth on the list is an unlockable bonus game which is a blast to the past spin of the original Mario Bros. game. Even better, if you have a New Super Luigi U saved game on your Wii U, you’ll be able to play Luigi Bros. right out of the box. Last, but hardly least, Nintendo has revealed that players can take on the role of Rosalina from Super Mario Galaxy and use her spin attack in the all-new Super Mario 3D World.
Super Mario 3D World will be released on November 22, 2013 in North America.
