January 2023 might seem like the calm before the storm, especially with several major game releases like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and others slated for February 2024. However, this doesn’t mean January is devoid of exciting games. Here are the major titles we’re looking forward to in January to kick off the new year.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

It’s been quite some time since the release of a new Prince of Persia game, and the franchise looks to be returning to form with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. In this latest installment, players will harness Time Powers, engage in dynamic combat and platforming skills to overcome time-corrupted enemies and mythological foes. Set against the backdrop of the mystical Mount Qaf, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown will have players crossing paths with vibrant characters as they work to unravel the location’s mysteries.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown releases on January 18 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered

The Last of Us Part II Remastered

While The Last of Us Part II Remastered may not offer much new for those who’ve played the original, the addition of the roguelike survival mode, No Return, is something I’m looking forward to playing. In No Return, players face the challenge of surviving as long as possible, fighting through random encounters and varying locations from The Last of Us Part II. Similar to other roguelike modes, like the recent Valhalla DLC for God of War Ragnarök, No Return has unique modifiers that will deliver new and unexpected challenges each run. Additionally, No Return introduces a range of never-before-playable characters, such as Dina, Jesse, Lev, Tommy, and more.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered releases on January 19 for PlayStation 5.

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy

Fans of the Ace Attorney series have reason to be excited with the upcoming Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy. This comprehensive collection includes all 14 episodes from Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice. In addition, it features two special episodes previously available only as DLC, bringing the total to 16 episodes. The collection also adds the Orchestra Hall, Art Library, and Animation Studio features, as well as multi-language support.

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy releases on January 26 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

The Like a Dragon universe—formerly known as Yakuza—continues to expand with Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. This RPG brings together iconic characters Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu in an epic adventure that crosses the Pacific. In Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, players will have the chance to immerse themselves in the bustling life of Japan, as well as the scenic landscapes of Hawaii.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth releases on January 26 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Tekken 8

Tekken 8

Fans of the fighting game genre had a great 2023 with major releases like Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1. Kicking off 2024 is Tekken 8, featuring 32 fighters with completely redesigned visuals. Continuing its record as the video game with the longest-running storyline, Tekken 8 delves deeper into the complex saga of the Mishima and Kazama bloodlines. The game will debut a new battle system called Heat, and introduce Arcade Quest, a single-player mode where players can create their own unique avatars.

Tekken 8 releases on January 26 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
