In July 2023, Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will have access to two games: Darkwood and When the Past was Around. Darkwood will be available for the entirety of the month and is a different type of survival horror game. It works to build tension without relying on traditional jump scares. During the day, players will scavenge weapons and materials, but once the sun sets, they’ll need to hole up and hope their traps and barriers they built will keep them protected during the night.

When the Past was Around will be available July 16 to August 15 and is a point-and-click adventure featuring hand-drawn art and a magical soundtrack. Featuring the touching and bittersweet love story of Eda and Owl, the game is billed as a calming, meditative experience that centers around themes of love and loss.
