Square Enix’s Visions of Mana made an appearance at today’s Xbox January Developer_Direct, announcing the game’s launch this summer on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. In the presentation, just under seven minutes long, Mana Series Producer Masaru Oyamada and Mana Series Creator Koichi Ishii showcased gameplay and provided a deeper insight into the game’s development process.
The video revealed new details about Visions of Mana’s combat, including a new aerial combat system that will take players to new heights during battles. A staple of the series, the Elementals, return to assist players in battle in the form of specialized items. Each weapon will yield a unique effect in combat, depending on its elemental attribute. Square Enix also introduced a new companion, “pikuls.” Drawing inspiration from animals and mythology, pikuls assist players in navigating the game’s extensive ground map.
Devoted fans of the Mana series will be thrilled to learn that the Visions of Mana soundtrack will feature 100 songs at launch, all composed or contributed to by musicians who have worked on previous Mana games, including Hiroki Kikuta, Tsuyoshi Sekito, and Ryo Yamazaki.
We’re extremely excited about Visions of Mana, being the first mainline entry in the series in over 15 years. It’s one of our most anticipated games of the year.
