So, funny story. We’ve been searching for a really good co-op survivors-like game ever since Teamfight Tactics had that optional survivors-like mode and took it away. The closest we’ve gotten is The Spell Brigade, but it lacks the depth and variety something like Vampire Survivors has to offer. Well, it sounds like our search can end soon, because Vampire Survivors is finally adding online co-op with version 1.14. The game added couch co-op in 2023 and, at the time, said online multiplayer was “an order of magnitude or two more complicated to make right now.” Fortunately, the team has figured it out.

There’s currently an open beta test for online mode available for Vampire Survivors. You just have to opt into Beta Participation and select the public beta version to see a preview of the next content patch. Compared to a standard local co-op run, there are some changes. Compared to a standard local co-op run, there are some changes. Online play incorporates batch level up, which means players only see a level up after everyone has leveled up. This depends on player count, but for four players, the level up screen will only show every four levels. Another change is that DLC can only be used online if every player owns it.

The good news is, free roam works in online play, though if one person walks into the boss room, all players are pulled in. There’s also a spectator mode if a player dies. Spectators can use the mouse to jump to living players and will respawn at the location of the player they’re watching. As for achievements, players can choose at the end of a run to carry any earned achievements back into their own save file. Speed up is disabled online, and if a player pauses, it doesn’t pause for everyone else. The person who pauses, though, gets a small window of invincibility.

Vampire Survivors v1.14 doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s slated for this fall on both PC and consoles. There’s more to the patch, but we’ll have to wait for more reveals.
