The launch of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced keeps producing big numbers, with Vantage Studios announcing the remake sold two million copies worldwide on its first day. The Ubisoft company also confirmed the game ranked number one on Twitch on launch day and hit a peak of 99,451 concurrent players on Steam within its first 24 hours, the record we covered yesterday as the highest ever for an Assassin’s Creed title on the platform.
Critics are on board as well, with Resynced sitting at an 85 Top Critic Average on OpenCritic and an 84 on Metacritic, which Ubisoft says makes it the highest rated Assassin’s Creed game since the original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag in 2013. IGN scored the remake 9/10 and called it “bigger and better in all the ways that matter,” while Digital Foundry praised the technical side, describing it as one of the most effective remakes the outlet has seen. Those marks line up with my review, where I called Resynced a great experience after roughly 40 hours, particularly for players like me who never experienced Edward Kenway’s story the first time around.
Head of Assassin’s Creed brand Martin Schelling said Black Flag has always held a special place in the community’s heart and the team’s own, framing Resynced as a promise to that passion for Edward’s adventures and the sense of freedom players felt back in 2013. Seeing two million players set sail on day one alongside the critical reception, he added, is “the greatest reward we could have hoped for.”
Led by Ubisoft Singapore, Black Flag Resynced is a ground-up remake of the 2013 original built on the latest Anvil engine, adding parry-driven combat, improved stealth and parkour, deeper naval mechanics, and new narrative content. The game is available on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Ubisoft+, and PC through the Ubisoft Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. For a publisher that has had a rough couple of years, this is the kind of launch Ubisoft has been waiting for, and Edward Kenway seems more than happy to carry the flag.
